As a former teacher, I don't envy the task of either group of educators: those trying to root out the cheaters, or those who are doing a wholesale revision to their curriculum. I agree that the first option is NOT the hill to die on! What we're missing with this latest "innovation bargain" is TIME - what used to take one or more generations to filter down to the classroom (calculators, whole language, web 2.0, even social media to some extent) has happened in less that three years. Once again, the tech companies and their customers - our students and children - are setting educational policy. And parents and teachers are hanging on for dear life!

I fully agree that time is the one thing that is missing in the equation. However, it should be possible to "AI-proof" the curriculum with not too much effort. One just needs to make sure that assignments cannot be completed by AI. The first thing to do would be to get rid of all take-home essay assignments. Instead focus on assignments that are built on human interaction between students and teachers.
